When I got home from Toronto...

June 4 my Iris "Happy Birthday" was blooming...
The larger of the Robin fledglings had l left , and just the younger was there about to leave. In fact an hour after I took its pictures it too was gone.
Now our lady has moved her nest (built another actually) to the front door lamp! I will try to get more of the babies as they hatch than I did last time. I saw a starling in the nest this morning and that bothered me.

Last to leave

Second Nest

Cornel University https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Robin/lifehistory tells us— amongst other things:

  • An American Robin can produce three successful broods in one year. On average, though, only 40 percent of nests successfully produce young. Only 25 percent of those fledged young survive to November. From that point on, about half of the robins alive in any year will make it to the next. Despite the fact that a lucky robin can live to be 14 years old, the entire population turns over on average every six years.
