The robins are growing!

The bigger of the hatchings got fed first but the smaller one did get food. It seemed to me not as much. Lots of flights in and out… one busy family.

First look today

I have been waiting for this day since she started her nest  in a snow storm. Behind the lamp and by the door I watched her build. Last week I thought the eggs had hatched for she/ he was sitting on nest edge looking intently into the nest. Today for the first time I saw the two hatchlings. It made not eating on my veranda or using that door all the worth while. I don’t know what got the other two eggs… perhaps a starling. I found one on my lawn, another on the road. Nevertheless please join me in welcoming the new family to 9 Lock Rd.

A Spring Evening

Technology is quite remarkable really. My daughters and I were just texting. Kate was sending pictures of fog and bleakness in Halifax, Emily shared shots from her Edmonton window, and I took my i-phone out to show them my evening. A soft breeze was blowing from the lake, the air was filled with the aroma of lilacs and lily of the valley. I wandered to my neighbour’s lilacs to share them with my daughters. Now I shall share a couple of  them and their visitor — a swallow-tail butterfly —with you.  … enjoy.
(I promise I will get out and do some “serious” work before too long.)
